Hello Kira, I have listened to you speak and I just want you that I find you extremely eloquent and a pleasure to listen to. Your views are spot on and I hope one day you run for office and perhaps even for President, as I would vote for you in a heartbeat. You are exactly what this country needs, a person driven by their own desire and not controlled by others. Good luck to you on your endeavors, I hope and trust you will go far.

I've been self-medicating my ADHD with television for 49 years, and grew up in a Republican household. Just to prove I can think like a Republican, when the Dem's announced a woman and a black man were their candidates for 2012, I privately thought, "They must be joking...don't they even want to win?"
When I was laid off two and a half years ago, I cut back on satellite channels and was left with this one strange channel called LinkTV, that seemed like a non-stop Jerry Lewis telethon, and watched Dem Now.... It was the first TV news show that actually prompted me to fact-check their stories. I found that while controversial, and over-stated, they had many points and were telling the truth. It prompted me to start watching the news reported from seven different countries every day for five months (Israel, Germany, Brittain, Palestine, our nightly news in the US, Dem Now and a smattering of channels from the Middle East (UAE & Al Jazeera English, the much-maligned "Big Oil" Channel from Qatar). After five months I finally realized and could "see" the spin that had led me to most of my beliefs, and that who tells the story really makes a huge difference...and that the nightly news here, being paid for by the rich and essentially being the place where rich white men teach us how they want us to think about things (not necessarily how they think about things, just how they want us to) was totally invalid as a source of "news." My uncle, a retired attorney told me afterwards that People have always needed to be cautious news consumers. I had to completely doubt and re-examine all of my beliefs. Dem Now were kind enough to clue me into my ADHD within six months, while the nightly news (corporate programming as I like to call it now) to this day doesn't have narratives which allow all the People limited to taking in information in several domains of our lives by television understand their underlying condition: a dystrophy of the Human Reward System.
Scientists now say that of the 207 neuro-transmitters doing different jobs in our heads, dopamine is the only one associated with the human ability to concentrate for more than a few minutes. And, brain scans of Tibetan monks has proven that neuro-plasticity is real, and that we can develop brain structures even late in life. I have since embarked on a process of cataloging, restructuring meanings and dredging up and destroying the secondary dopamine pathways I'd developed and developing the dopamine pathways most natural to our species (the orchestration of meanings around relationships and personal interaction).
Corporate programming maintains narratives not updated with the most recent science or realities around the world.
I've lost 75 pounds as a result, and have a discipline not to get my dopamine from scripts in my head that included superiority and anger, which were not very functional or portable, and have improved my relationships with my cat, dog and rabbit and daughter (who had become an addict as a result of being exposed to my failed eighteen year marriage). Coming home with a note from my doctor, after a diagnosis of ADHD that took a full year and a half (ADD inattentive type) and saying the news on TV was faked to allow the one percent to keep doing whatever the hell it wanted to was the last straw for my wife, who's since divorced me (she can be happy watching channel 7 news, but now I know more about every story I happen to watch there). And, while huge parts of my story are sad, I've become much more connected to People around the world, and have made progress in being able to read books that aren't horror stories or sci-fi finally.
I have hope for myself, that I will make it someday to the place where the other 83% of our population got after childhood naturally, but not much hope that the rich will be stopped from their incessant manipulation of our culture and leveraging of the sickest and weakest among us who act as the corporate swing-vote. They tanked the economy, then convinced us they were just doing their jobs...and as economist Richard Wolff says, they were, and it's childish to expect them to do otherwise.
There's another song they played recently on Dem Now, from a South American band, called, "There's a Lot You Don't Know." Wish you had a link to that one!

Hi Kira.

I love this video and the earlier one ("You can't ban evil'). You obviously fully understand that conservative philosophy is multi-layered and far-sighted, and we must persevere through superficial liberal assertions such as "Government would never hurt you...why do you mistrust government...aren't you being a little hysterical?" I'm impressed by you.

On Grumpa Joe's recommendation, I have just subscribed to your blog. (I'd be honored if you'd come check mine out too.)

May I offer this interesting essay from a retired Marine officer, for you and your readers?

The Gun is Civilization
by Maj. L. Caudill, USMC (Ret)

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat–it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.

People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.

Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser.

People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.

The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.

When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced.

Have a great day.

I enjoyed your blog comments on FB and sought out your site. I was quite disturbed about the Obama/Clinton cover-up as well as the general moral decline where the C&C should represent to the Nation as well as military services integrity and "moral agency" which filters down. As a retired U.S. Navy HMC (1958-1980) I would have thought after "tail hook" there would have been ZERO TOLERANCE for "sexual assault in the Military". Whether officer or senior enlisted there is a honorable standard to be met. If I couldn't trust a subordinate morally, how can we trust them with the national security of our nation. "Not leaving a comrade behind" as well as leading from the front has to be coupled with TRUST of someone watching your back. Deseret Storm was the first military conflict where individual AUTONOMY in the field saved thousands of lives. This autonomy has to be within PARAMETERS " like "rules of engagement", but, none-the-less based on the integrity of your leaders and delegation with latitude.
"Sexual Assault in the Military
The Pentagon released a report this week indicating that sexual assaults in the military spiked from approximately 19,000 in 2011 to an estimated 26,000 assaults in 2012, reflecting a 37-percent increase over the one-year period. This data, coupled with the low percentage of cases that result in court-martial, has led a flurry of legislative action addressing this disturbing trend.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned that the Pentagon "may be nearing a stage where the frequency of this crime and the perception that there is tolerance of it could very well undermine our ability to effectively carry out the mission to recruit and retain the good people we need."

Sens. Patty Murray (Wash.) and Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) introduced bipartisan legislation (S. 871) that is supported by FRA and would provide specialized legal assistance to military victims of sexual assault, as well as revise some of the procedures for court-martial cases related to sexual assault.

Reps. Mike Turner (Ohio) and Niki Tsongas (Mass.) introduced a bipartisan measure (H.R. 1867) in the House this week that would require dismissal or dishonorable discharge for any service member found guilty of sexual assault or attempts to commit such acts. The Better Enforcement for Sexual Assault Free Environments Act of 2013 would also prevent any military officer from altering or dismissing a sexual assault court-martial conviction.
I would like to see more of your blogs, especially concerning the integrity of the President down through the military if America is not going to completely deteriorate. The decisions being made in Washington are destroying this nation and National Defense, and weakening the ability to meet aggression doesn't bode well with CIA giving weapons to cartels, selling jets, and tanks to Egypt, selling oil rights to China, or tearing down the air defense along Texas, & Arizona borders. Not to mention legalizing illegals and opening our borders. What are they thinking? Or is it they aren't thinking beyond lining their own future financially and prestige. Richard A. Bowlby, HMC/USN/RET

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned that the Pentagon “may be nearing a stage where the frequency of this crime and the perception that there is tolerance of it could very well undermine our ability to effectively carry out the mission to recruit and retain the good people we need.”

The decisions being made in Washington are destroying this nation and National Defense, and weakening the ability to meet aggression doesn’t bode well with CIA giving weapons to cartels, selling jets, and tanks to Egypt, selling oil rights to China, or tearing down the air defense along Texas, & Arizona borders. Not to mention legalizing illegals and opening our borders. What are they thinking? Or is it they aren’t thinking beyond lining their own future financially and prestige. Richard A. Bowlby, HMC/USN/RET

This is a "response", not an answer. It is one of those, "if I say enough things about all sorts of things, and I make all sorts of declarations for which I don't actually provide any specific support, the original question will be buried and forgotten in the minds of most people listening and they will actually *THINK* I answered the question when in fact I've just said a bunch of nothing that says nothing and means nothing."

The 0 is very good at that.
