Obamacare: “The Left Won the Battle,The Right Will Win the War”

Words are not adequate enough to fully express my initial level of shock and disappointment  for the SCOTUS’ ruling on the constitutionality of Obamacare however, I am even more inspired by the increased level of patriotism in light of it. The SCOTUS has ruled that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or “Obamacare” is unconstitutional under the commerce clause however, it was upheld as constitutional under the taxation clause. Most of the components of it remain in tact and the entire written opinion is here.

Barack Obama has now added to his resume the largest tax increase on American citizens in US history. A very dangerous precedent has been set in that Congress can tax the citizens for anything – even inactivity. A mandate is a tax. Chief Justice Roberts’ message to Americans is very clear: This is a legislative problem that must be fixed by our elected officials. In other words, this needs to be handled politically for what it is – a tax increase. I think Roberts’ decision will silence Liberals who question the objectivity of the SCOTUS and he, as Chief Justice, is trying to balance maintaining the integrity of  the court and the sovereignty of the constitution. Instead of dealing with Obamacare politically, Republicans thought that they could just shift responsibility to the Supreme Court and it would be repealed automatically or worse case scenario, the individual mandate alone would be repealed. Now as per Chief Justice Roberts, we must take it back to Congress and deal with it politically. One slight benefit of the ruling is that now the Senate can’t filibuster on taxation issues like they could on issues of commerce but it’s up to us to do what is needed to ensure that Obamacare is repealed.

This ruling is sending shock waves throughout populations of supporters for both political ideologies. Conservatives have gone from outrage to even more fervent support of GOP candidate Mitt Romney and a shift is bound to occur among independent voters as well.Within hours of the ruling, Mitt Romney’s campaign has received more than 3 million dollars in donations and counting. All on the Left are not thrilled with this outcome either but both sides share responsibility for it. As analyst Michael Tanner of the CATO Institute reminded us regarding the predecessor for Obamacare (Romneycare) in 2008:

“Outside observers on both the Right and Left praised the program. Edmund Haislmaier of the Heritage Foundation hailed it as “one of the most promising strategies out there.” And Hillary Clinton adviser Stuart Altman said, ‘‘The Massachusetts plan could become a catalyst and a galvanizing event at the national level, and a catalyst for other states.”

Critics of Mitt Romney argue that “Romneycare” is a failure (and it is) but you see, that’s the very reason Romney is  the right man for the job because he has tried it, failed and knows firsthand that Obamacare, modeled after his plan will not work. Massachusetts was an experimental microcosm of socialist inspired healthcare in the local private sector. Romney has tested his healthcare hypothesis in Massachusetts and failed, whereas with President Obama we are the test and his hypothesis is based on Romney’s so as logic dictates, we will fail. Barack Obama either deliberately ignores this in light of the tax revenue he will generate or is afflicted with political myopia so severe that he cannot see it. You decide. Romney has responded to the ruling stating that “In order to get rid of Obamacare we must get rid of Obama” as well as pledged to repeal it if elected and I believe that he will do this and we will make sure he keeps this promise:

Mitt Romney’s Reaction to Obamacare Ruling

As of today, according to the Seattle Times Barack Obama still has his work cut out for him (and I concur):

“Still, the triumph for Obama will not necessarily be enduring. The president now faces the challenge of trying to sell the merits of the health-care law again in the court of public opinion, even as Romney and Republicans can campaign on their promise to repeal the measure.

It was telling that Obama used his address from the East Room two hours after the court’s ruling to explain the law and its benefits to Americans, something that even some supporters said he had failed to do effectively after the law’s passage in 2010.”

Most liberals are celebrating which is quite confusing as well as humorous to me to be honest, because this should be a losing situation for them as well. Their shouts of victory show me that they don’t even understand their own platform. So a regurgitated republican healthcare plan that has been proven as a failure is a victory? Huh? They are still forced to buy insurance from the private sector which liberals have rallied against from here to kingdom come, in favor of government run healthcare. I’m starting to think liberalism is a mental disorder today and I would, except for those liberal friends of mine who have remained consistent in their quest for true socialized medicine which they believe can be benevolent and best run by the federal government. One such friend is Independent Liberal blogger Yvette Carnell, a contributor and editor of YourBlackWorld.net who said to me, in reaction to the ruling:

The Supreme Court may have limited the Commerce Clause, but they still legalized a mandate to buy PRIVATE health insurance. For me, that’s a problem since there’s no government alternative. You’re forcing me into the market no matter what. What if prices are high, then what? I’m still mandated to participate? I have issues with that…”

Now of course, I don’t agree with Yvette but at least she has the wisdom to understand what this really means for the healthcare aspect of the liberal platform and no one can dare say that she or other liberals who share this sentiment are inconsistent. Obamacare was a covert love affair between Barack Obama and taxation that the Supreme Court has now brought out into the open. Instead of keeping this affair secret any longer, an engagement has been announced by Chief Justice Roberts and it’s up to us on Tuesday, November 6th 2012 to interrupt the ceremony when asked and speak up or hold our peace for four more years. In effect, liberals celebrating Obamacare is equivalent to a turkey celebrating Thanksgiving.

The irony in the aftermath of this ruling is that many of the arguments about Obamacare in the blogosphere are now avoiding the cost factor – from both sides. This ruling does not change the fact that Obamacare costs much more than we were initially led to believe. We cannot afford Obamacare with 16 trillion dollars in debt looming over our heads and counting and the current tactic of buying our own debt will not stop nor slow the progress of this coming fiscal tsunami.

Obama misrepresented himself when he condemned Hillary Clinton’s healthcare plan in 2008 because of the individual mandate because he has done the same exact thing that he campaigned
against. He also gave Americans his word that this was not a tax as far back as 2009 and the word “tax” did not even come up while this legislation was in Congress, yet crept it’s way into the oral arguments before the SCOTUS in March. I have never seen such overt, left-wing legerdemain in my life. However, now, the SCOTUS has upheld it for what is was to start with – a tax. I am of the opinion that this is great news for Mitt Romney because Chief Justice Roberts has actually given him a new battle cry – that Americans are being forced to pay yet another tax, initially under the subterfuge of a “fine” by a president who has said he would not do this. This is also a major reason for the very existence of the Tea Party  (Taxed Enough Already) which every patriot should be in full support of in every way now.

Let me also say that aside from being an unaffordable piece of legislation and regardless as to whether or not Obamacare is repealed, Barack Obama has rendered the private sector fearful regarding those offenses it is notorious for, like dropping someone from coverage when they get sick or denying coverage for a pre-existing condition which I have loathed insurance companies for, for years. I have never seen such greedy disregard for human life in America as what has taken place with the private insurance sector. The insurance industry has been in a menage a trois of sorts with  both political parties for so long through lobbying and special interests and the majority of Americans just do not approve. It is the fault of both the GOP and the Democratic party that we are where we are now because for years both have simply applied band-aids to the gunshot wound of this crisis in America in order to appease us. Folks, Obamacare, is just another band-aidIf When Mitt Romney is elected, Barack Obama just made the task of healthcare exponentially easier for him to resolve by cracking the whip (previously cracked by Romney at the state level) on the private sector for those components of insurance which we all hate and by forcing what Americans just don’t want any more of – taxes by virtue of being alive.

So my final thoughts to conservatives are to throw every fiber of your political being behind candidate Mitt Romney. Donate every penny which you are able to and know that there is no donation that is too small. If you cannot donate money, donate your time and speak to everyone you can about the long term implications of re-electing incumbent Barack Obama for four more years. Conservatives, the Trojan horse is no longer at the gates but has now entered the city so this is the Thermopylae. To liberals, go ahead and celebrate now while you can. You won this battle, but you
will lose the war.

According to my job, obamacare wont change anything regarding my current coverage/cost..and since my coverage is sufficient for me I dont really have much gripe about obamacare passing. I guess whats most annoying to me is tha..instead of spending all this valuable time and effort to actually solve the health care issues that are apparent in the system as is..were working to eliminate solutions which puts us smack-dab back at square one. This back and forth nonsense reminds me of middleschool behaviors.

    • Joe you are one of the fortunate ones and I understand your sentiments as well as agree. The thing is that now you have no choice – you MUST buy healthcare. If for any reason you decided you wanted to drop your employer sponsored healthcare and buy a cheaper one somewhere else or use that money to repair your car or anything you cannot. What we want to preserve here is choice which is as American as apple pie. If you give the government an inch they’ll take 10 feet. We don’t want them using this healthcare as leverage to meddle in other parts of our lives nor tax those parts.

    • Walter Myers III says:

Joe, your comment is shortsighted, and I would only ask you to think a bit more about what you wrote. Why would you think that because the legislation doesn’t directly affect you, then you don’t care about its passing (or rather you probably meant being upheld by the SC)? That’s precisely the problem with our country today is people who don’t mind if others are hurt as long as they themselves are not affected. You should have a gripe about this, because it does affect you as it does every single other American. I just ask that you please think more carefully on this issue and soberly moving forward.

    • joe says:

So i do agree. This does go against those who choose not to have insurance.. And indeed maybe some of you are correct in that the govt shouldnt make you have it. But the problem comes when/if you get sick an need med care. If you cant pay for it should you still be able to get care? who eats the cost of those who have rolled the dice an gone without insurance? If i successfully go without car insurance im doing so at a risk..and if i get in a wreck i get no service for car repairs unless i can pay for it.. Do u suggest those with no health ins and no money be treated the same?

    • Joe it’s all about providing affordable coverage for those 20% of Americans w/o it (approximately 50 million Americans) without taking away choices from everyone else. We need to fix what’s wrong w/insurance legislatively w/o fundamentally changing the relationship between American citizens and the federal government. Obamacare fosters growth alright…for the federal government only. We want to limit the feds not give them complete bureaucratic control of our lives.

    • Walter Myers III excellent points! We are all in this together so there is no room for separated concerns. It is literally us against the federal government.

  2. Teresa Yeisley says:

My hospital dropped it’s co-pay of my health ins. when Obamacare was passed. It has added $3000 to my ins. cost, since it used to be a benefit…Thanks Oclueless!

  3. Linda Hogue says:

Speaking from experience, the government is the worst possible place to manage insurance! I am low income, and live in California. I don’t have insurance myself, (too many assets to qualify) but my son has had MediCal for about 15 years now. Every year we have to go thru a re-qualification process which takes hours–photocopying tax returns, bank statements, answering questions, etc. It feels like the equivalent of doing your taxes. Last time, they decided my son no longer qualified for MediCal and should apply for Healthy Families, their other low income insurance. For nearly a year, we’ve been shuffled back and forth between the two programs, forced to apply over and over (even though my income has stayed the same). In the meantime, he’s been without coverage for nearly a year! By this time, I feel like I’ve done my taxes about 10 times this year–and we STILL aren’t covered!!!! Last time I talked to a worker, who wanted one more piece of information that “proved” my income, I thought I was going to lose my mind! I can’t imagine the rest of America going thru this kind of nightmare, but that is what it will be for them, as more and more people get funneled into the State exchanges.

Another thing I would like to remind people about is that government-run agencies, spend most of the money they get on administration, salaries and benefits for government workers and maintaining office space and property. Medical Providers do not get paid much at ALL for services they provide, and usually are taking low income insurance as a courtesy, and for benevolence. (I used to do billing in a Dr.’s office). If the doctor charges $300 per hour, MediCal pays about $25 per hour. If more and more people are on this, it’s going to make it harder to find medical providers willing to take it. They simply can’t make a living this way. Also there is only one place in our county in the area where I live that accepts these plans for dental coverage. It is a health clinic, and the dentists are all fresh out of dental college. They are there to get experience before they start their own private practices. That is our only option for dental care for every low income person living in this area.

It’s a bit embarrassing to admit I am one of those who, through my own various circumstances and choices, have found myself on these programs, but I thought it was important enough to share, so that people can understand that government run insurance is really awful. The minute my son turns 18, we are moving from California to a place with more work opportunities and are hoping to leave this intrusive, inefficient and horrible product behind! ObmamCare MUST be repealed!!!

    • Linda California is another nightmare economically. I appreciate your comments and agree more. I don’t understand why we don’t pay attention to other precedents like Social Security and Medicare. The government has no business meddling with the private sector and they are not to be trusted with out health. People need to wake up! What’s going on as you describe in California is insane.

Brilliant write up Talitha. I say the same thing. Liberals see everything that their sheep master puts in front of them at it’s face value. Great job on the Republican side to play into and around this tactically and therefore ensuring Republican victory in November. Now Obama has another item in failed policies to worry about. Great post.

  5. Mary W says:

Joe, I don’t choose not to have health insurance, I can’t afford it. With forseeable skyrocketing premiums, I wont be able to afford it in the future either. I pay income taxes, property taxes, school taxes and every other tax mandated by this greedy govt. I am a nurse who works 60+ hours a week to take care of myself and children. I have no insurance and can’t possibly work anymore to obtain it. However, if I chose to be a deadbeat, I would have many rewards. Since you are so well off, will you so kindly pay my fine aka TAX for not having enough $?

  6. Elder Lansing says:

The Constitution was dealt a death blow yesterday and it will take a lot for it to be born again! This was judicial activism and it will ruin the health care system. The limited power of the federal government as described by our founding fathers has erupted into far reaching unbalanced tyranny!!

  7. salemst says:

I’m a long time self-employed Executive Recruiter talking with Corporate America daily around employment. When Obamacare is mentioned the word I get from large employers is it will cost an additional 12K annually per employee…….9K incurred by the company (75%) and 3K by the employee (25%).

Can anyone explain to me how adidng this cost per employee encourages corporate private sector hiring, and what the impact on the consumer side of the economy will be with employees having $250/Month less disposable income to sink into the economy?

  8. “Obama misrepresented himself when he condemned Hillary Clinton’s healthcare plan in 2008 because of the individual mandate because he has done the same exact thing that he campaigned against.”

I had forgotten all about this salient point! Excellent article Ms. Talitha!

  9. Eric says:

I’m so SICK of the left trying to use Romneycare against him and in favor of Obama for re-election. Yeah, Romney did it, but like you said Talitha he knows first-hand why this country can’t afford it both literally and figuratively.

As for the people, the voters of this country, why would the argument from the left that “Romney did it” make any difference in November? We clearly have two choices: Vote to re-elect the guy who wants to see the entire country fail under this system, or vote for the guy who knows from experience that it won’t work. We know FOR SURE that Obamacare will stay in place if we re-elect him. At least in Romney’s case he’s saying the right things and there’s more hope that it can be repealed.

Just remember, we need to not only elect Romney, but it’s CRITICAL that we also change the balance of power in Congress. You know, because it’s a BFD.

  10. I lost my health insurance all together after ObamaTax passed. I had a HSA. I realize it wouldn’t work for every family, but it worked very well for mine. My deductible was $5K and I only reached it once. I had plenty of money in healthcare bank so if any major illness were to happen I would have the money to pay for it.

With all the mandates these policies are basically illegal. The mandates of all the no co-pay this and no co-pay that make them so expensive that the company stopped offering them. My payments went up 82%. Not per year, but per month. I make too much to qualify for the exchanges, so this is my option. I am not a believer in not having insurance, so I may go back to work to get insurance. But I figure out if paying for daycare will make that worthwhile.

  11. Mia L. says:

Great job as usual Talitha and you’re right about what liberals have wanted because I used to want government healthcare myself.
